The Tenuta comprises 30 hectares, of which 25 are planted to vineyard; its true heart is the vineyard, in fact, purchased in the early years of the estate by a local notary, Sica. In his 1969 Guida all'Italia piacevole, the legendary Luigi Veronelli singled out Sica’s farming estate when he praised the area’s “warm and full-scented red-wine blends.”

Up until the late 1990s, the tenuta focused on high-quality grape production, which won the estate numerous medals in provincial and regional competitions. But an encounter in 2000 with Riccardo Cotarella, world-famous figure in the wine world, provided the wine project with a definitive direction. The vineyards were partially re-planted and trained to systems that would yield crops at the high-quality levels that today are the signature traits of the winery.

Ernesto and Vincenzo, civil engineers like their father, took over the reins of the winery from him in 2001. Assisted by a young but talented team of consultants and associates, they are advancing this wine project with the same values that have always animated it: with passionate commitment and all of the disciplined focus that has for generations characterised the Spada family.
